Christmas Chimes

When I was a teen, we attended Hope Church in Matamoras, Pa. Someone donated a set of chimes to the church and they resounded over our town and the city across the Delaware River. As part of my job as church organist, I would play Christmas Carols at 6 pm every night in December on the chimes. I don't remember ever being afraid to go into the dark church alone. People told me stories about how the sound of the chimes was calming as they went about holiday shopping and preparations. I always thought that the C above middle C was slightly flat-but almost impossible to avoid on a small keyboard. Good memories.
