The weather man says that we will have our first frost tonight! That means it's time to harvest our green tomatoes. When Darrell was managing the Branchville Agway in NJ, he met a lady named Verna Swanson. She helped to gather recipes for a cookbook by the local people-mostly farmers. I have been making her green tomato jam for years. It's fun to bring jars of it out during the holidays. Maybe you would like to try it too. ( We made this recipe with green grapes also and it turned out great)
VERNA'S JAM
3 cups ground green tomatoes
2 cups sugar
2 3 oz. pkgs. raspberry jello
Boil the tomatoes and sugar for 20 minutes, stirring. Add jello, then pour into jelly jars. Refrigerate after opening. (I freeze them)
Blessings to all- Enjoy! Going out to pick my greenies now.

I remember this jam.. Green tomato sounds weird, but it is really quite good!!!
Nov. 4- Kate made a version of this recipe today with the last of the green tomatoes that were hanging around the dining room. She added some hot peppers that she brought from Idaho and used strawberry jello. It's really good and we had it with homemade rolls with our dinner last nite.
